Nov 14, 2011 It will cycle with some (but not all) heavier, stronger ammo but will not cycle with rounds such such as Federal 55 gr. I believe it is short stroking because it will fire and eject but not pick up the next round and will not hold the bolt open after the last round is fired. I need to manually pull the charge handle between shots.
I took my AR out to the range last weekend with some new parts and the BCG was not locking back after the last round. This is my first AR so I'm not quite sure what can be causing it and what is the solution. I've read it can be the buffer assembly / bolt catch / mags / gas.
I'm thinking it is the mags I used. They are the first time I've used them, they are Magpul M2 blocked to 10/30 rounds (CA legal). Ive used Magpul Gen 3 pmag 10/30 and they worked fine (with factory BCG). I'm thinking the M2 follower is not on par with Gen 3.
I also replaced my factory Auto BCG with a BCM Auto BCG. So I'm wondering if that might have any effect on it. I don't have the Gen 3 pmags anymore so I couldn't test if that was the problem. I'm guessing I need to try different mags now to trouble shoot this. Any suggestions? Thanks

This was my first time ever building an AR. I have a 16' 5.56 aero precision barrel, Luth-AR carbine buffer kit, an aero gas block with a mid length gas tube from the gun shop, and a Radian enhanced ar15/m16 black nitride bolt carrier group, all in an aero m4e1 upper. I don't think it's the ammo, I've tried 4 different kinds.
It ejects but either jams on the next round or doesn't pick it up at all. I noticed that there was black residue where the gas tube meets the gas block, like some gas is escaping there. I also notice that about the last half inch of the other end of the gas tube, where it goes into the key, was black with residue. Is this normal or my problem? Please help!
